TODDLERS
(2 YEAR OLDS)
The toddler 2-year-old rooms are designed to serve children between the ages of 2 to younger 3 years old. The staff/child ratio for this age group is eleven children per staff member.
2-year olds are naturally curious about the world around them. This curiosity combined with their newly acquired motor skills and rapidly increasing language acquisition inspires their exploration instincts! They want to explore new things and KHLC provides
interesting toys and other educational items that are for play and learning. The
environment is safe and children are encouraged to develop self-help skills such as toilet training, dressing themselves and good table manners. Social skills such as sharing toys and positive interactions with their peers are stressed throughout the day. We strive to maintain a positive atmosphere to contribute to a child’s good feelings about him/herself and those around him/her.
Speech and language growth is heightened at this age and their little minds are
sponges, ready to soak it all in. Everyday conversation is important and lends itself to
new words and new phrases which enhance their vocabulary and language skills. Children are taught in both English and Spanish languages helping them to acquire bilingual language skills.
PRE-SCHOOL
(3 YEAR OLDS)
As the children continue their experience at KHLC, new considerations are given to their increased attention span, activity level and need to satisfy their curiosity. A more structured environment is created, and the opportunities of exploration are increased. The preschool program serves children between the ages of three and four years of age with a teacher / student ratio of 1 to 15 or 1 to 20.
Emphasis is placed on cognitive skills. Our curriculum concentrates on pre-reading, reading, mathematical and science concepts, creative arts and music. Planned activities are used to reinforce the natural learning that is part of every activity in a child’s day, even playtime. We encourage the child to learn by doing and experiencing in a safe and well-supervised environment. All the children’s activities are planned and presented in a positive, caring atmosphere by trained professionals.
Consistency is given through routine; variety is promoted through activities to stimulate all areas of development. Social interaction is encouraged, communication and cognitive skills are enhanced, and spiritual development is carefully nurtured.
Creativity is promoted in a non-inhibited environment. Our close relationships between staff and children will contribute to the development of a child's positive self-image. All developmental areas are given equal attention. Spiritual values are strongly promoted through exemplary interaction. Our main objective is love and individual attention through proper stimulation through the environment.
PRE-SCHOOL
(4/5 YEAR OLDS)
KHLC partners with the Early Learning Coalition of Saint Lucie County to provide
voluntary prekindergarten (VPK). VPK is a state program designed to prepare every child in Florida for kindergarten and build the foundation for their educational success.
VPK gives each child an opportunity to perform better in school and throughout life with quality programs that include high literacy standards, accountability, appropriate
curricula, substantial instruction periods, manageable class sizes and qualified instructors. The VPK mission is to ensure that all children are intellectually, socially,
emotionally and physically ready to enter school and ready to learn, fully recognizing the crucial role of parents as their child’s first teacher.
VPK is available to all four-year-old children born on or before September 1st that
reside in Florida, regardless of family income. Once certified as a participant, families are entitled to 3 free hours of VPK instruction each day. Students continue the day in childcare and participate in the Wrap-around program which offers enhanced learning
opportunities and childcare after VPK for a reduced tuition rates.
The VPK application process is entirely online and easy to complete.
